Be fair with the re-locations!!!

“I get it. You can push me around, destroy my house, and make me move somewhere else all because I’m poor.”
This is just a rhetorical statement but I’m sure this is what most informal settlers would say whenever the government asks them to relocate and probably when things get out of hand in the process.
As of the time this article was written, various parts of Luzon are flooded. One of the government’s solutions to lessening the destruction is to transfer informal settlers from rivers and waterways. According to Vice President Jejomar Binay, chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), out of the 580,000 squatters in Manila, 104,000 of them live in such bodies of water.
Well, this is a good decision because there are some squatters who lack discipline in throwing their waste. For them, rivers and waterways are a dumping site. Their laziness surely helped in destroying the lives of others.
But I wonder, are they the only ones who obstruct the flow of water in these areas? How about those businessmen who started building establishments and residential areas by putting huge rocks and soil on top of bodies of water? Will the government just let them run away with the crime?
I don’t know why the government is seemingly indifferent against these businessmen who only care about huge profits. Don’t they know that this type of moneymakers is also catalysts of the flood too? Hey, ignorance is bliss but facing the consequences of it isn’t!
If the government is able to apply their political will on the poor, they should also implement it on the rich. After all, they’re still human and under the jurisdiction of the Filipino laws. No one should be exempted from the law despite how fat their pocket is.
I beg the Philippine government to be fair! Displace these buildings and subdivisions too!
