Future Tech “3D Printing” can Print anything, even a House!
|September 12, 2012||Posted by Dave under News, Technology|
A new manufacturing technique called 3D printing will produce everything from homes to human organs. A house will be “printed” much like you print out word files today. Eventually, 3D printers will produce other 3D printers, which means self-replicating machines.
Exciting and scary at the same time. But just like the “electric cars” before, big corporations will put all their powers into stopping this! Sounds interesting? Read on.
Cisco’s Dave Evans has the coolest job in the world. He is a “futurist” at Cisco Networking. Yes, you heard that right, he predicts the future.
He plays with the latest new gadgets and tech. He hobnobs with scientists. And then predicts the future.
How did he get such a great job? Longevity at Cisco—and being right about his tech predictions 100 percent of the time, he says. He’s been at Cisco for 22 years, since he was 23. Back then, Cisco had fewer than 200 employees.
Evans says that all of his predictions have come true, mostly because to him they aren’t predictions, but logical conclusions.
“I tend not to predict as much as I try to understand the trends,” he says.
For instance, shortly before the first browser was released (Mosaic, in 1993), Evans declared that the the World Wide Web would be huge, that everyone would have a website and buy stuff online, with billions of devices connected. (He didn’t predict social media or the Arab Spring—he doesn’t claim to be psychic.)
He predicted self-driving cars 10 years ago, virtual characters/virtual people a decade ago, and intelligent artificial limbs decades before that.
Next up he sees virtual humans—intelligent Siri-like agents—coming to every living room. He says a new manufacturing technique called 3D printing will produce everything from homes to human organs. A house will be “printed” much like you print out word files today. Eventually, 3D printers will produce other 3D printers, which means self-replicating machines.
Exciting and scary at the same time.
Yes, 3D printers.
They are already here.
More info from maindevice.com.
And finally, from shareables.com, here’s the world’s first 3D printed gun.
How cool is that?
And scary at the same time. This future tech is closing in. Fast.
Corporations may try their best to stop this revolutionary tech, but they can only slow it down.
Why do business corps hate this awesome tech? Because it’s non-profitable.
3D printers can make other 3D printers!
Yep, if you have a 3D printer, you can make another 3D printer and give it to your neighbor, girlfriend, whoever. And companies hate this!
If you need stuff, you don’t need to go to a store anymore. YOU JUST MAKE IT AT HOME!
You need a hammer and nails? Just print it out! Need plates and spoons for your upcoming party? Just press print!
Yep, the manufacturing industry will burn down to the ground. All people will need are “raw” materials. Materials from suppliers are all you need, and basically, the middlemen (manufacturers) will be eliminated.
Prices will fall, manufacturing fees and profits will be eliminated, and the revolution will start.
You know what else?
This is the same tech as the electric car decades before. Electric cars existed ever since the 80′s. But big oil companies put all their money, effort and power into stopping these.
In 1996, some college students rediscovered the electric car technology and were in the brink of a breakthrough. Tom Hanks and other Hollywood stars went crazy about this great tech, and did a lot of promotion for it.
The students manages to get a manufacturing deal going, but suddenly, car dealerships ”mysteriously” got a substantial amount of money “if they stop selling electric cars.“ So that was it. The dealerships took the money, didn’t sell electric cars and killed the electric revolution. It was all documented in this sundance film Who killed the electric car.
But just like Toyota’s ingenuity of creating a “half” electric hybrid, this 3D printing tech will soon come out whether they like it or not. Because, since big oil companies are standing in the way of full electric cars, Toyota built a “half” electric hybrid instead. Genius.
Now, Tesla, Chevy bolt and other “full” electric car makers are slowly revolutionizing this world. Big oil companies are pissed, but what can you do… You can’t stop the future, you can only slow it down.
What do you think?
How soon will this tech catch on and spread like wild fire?
